Two down, two to go. In front of one of the biggest and most vocal troop of Belrose supporters seen at Harbord Park for many years Belrose successfully defeated arch rival Valley United last Sunday 20-16.

In another sudden death semi final we started well with Shannon Cameron crossing after 7 minutes for a 4-0 lead. Soon after Valleys levelled up and then just before halftime scored again to lead 10-4. Both sides controlled possession reasonably well during the half and it was only after a string of penalties that Valleys got the jump on us. However we hit back in the 33^rd  minute with Steve Carew crossing and James Mortimer converting. Belrose 10 – Valleys 10 at halftime.

There was no doubt that this game was there for the taking. With an even share of possession and some of the defence we are renowned for in the second half we could put Valleys away. The body language of the Valleys players suggested they knew it as well.

The second half was tight but our forwards were on fire allowing our backs to weave their magic. We scored early through a try to Christian Bate but then allowed Valleys to respond soon after to lead 16-14. The game remained that way until the 25th minute when Brandon Scott pounced on the ball to score which James converted – Belrose 20 – Valleys 16. We endured ten nervous minutes before the fulltime bell went and for the second time this year we defeated Valleys in the rain at Harbord Park.

This was a great result for us even if we didn’t play to our full potential As the coach said after the game, great win but we were probably at about 75%. Plenty of room for improvement and we will need it if we are to get past Narraweena.

Next Sunday we are at Ferretville and will need another dose of the fabulous support we got at Harbord. Without a doubt this is a proud Belrose team who thrive on the type of support only a Belrose crowd can supply. See you all on Sunday as we continue our march to the 2011 title.

To all our loyal supporters on behalf of all involved in our A Grade Squad we would like to thank you all for the awesome support we received from you all yesterday.

In a pressure game such as the one we played yesterday I have no doubt that we got home on the back of our Biggest & Best away crowd in recent years. Played under overcast skies & driving rain for some of the game I am there were other things you could have done on such a miserable day.

We are a very proud team and proud of whom we play for so we will be giving it everything we have got in our preparation this week to get ready to take on the defending Premiers Narraweena Hawks in the preliminary final.

Thank you all again for your support and look forward to seeing you all again this weekend and we wish all our other team good luck in their finals this weekend as well.

One down, three to go. After the A Reserves unfortunately bowed out of their competition for this year it was left to the A Grade to get the money in a sudden death match against arch rivals the Narrabeen Sharks on Sunday. In the end Belrose prevailed in a thriller 19-18. All of this in front of a large crowd where plenty of Sharks supporters invaded our domain and our own supporters took a while to find their voices.

The games didn’t start that well for us with Narrabeen scoring early to take a 4-0 lead. We hit back soon after with a try to Steve Carew which was converted by James Mortimer to take the lead 6-4. The forward clashes were very willing but with possession and penalties going the way of the Sharks they scored twice before halftime to take a 14-6 lead. The half was disrupted whilst we waited for half an hour for one of the Narrabeen players to be taken away by ambulance. The game recommenced with about six minutes to go before halftime. Halftime score 14-6 to Narrabeen.

The coach was very calm and explained to the boys that he could not question their effort, but their execution both in defence and offence needed to get back to the simple game plan that we can deliver so well. No second chances, this was it, time to get back on track.

The early second half was all Belrose, we controlled the tempo of the game and scored two tries through Chris Lowe both of which were converted by James to take a 18-14 lead with eighteen minutes to go. In reality we had more than enough opportunities to put Narrabeen away during the second half but impatience resulted in poor options which cost us. Narrabeen hit back with ten minutes to go but failed to convert the try – Belrose 18, Narrabeen 18. The game looked for all money likely to go into extra time but with less than a minute on the clock Jason Wells casually slotted a field goal for a 19-18 victory.

This was a very satisfying result particularly against Narrabeen, all victories are cherished. However we are going to have to be even better over the weeks ahead because without a doubt the opposition will be. We have the game and the team but we must play to our strengths and show more patience than we did on Sunday.

We now venture to Harbord Park next Sunday to meet another of our arch rivals Valley United in another sudden death clash. The good news for our supporters is that you did finally find your voices before the end of the match but we will need you in full cry next Sunday.
